Solid Waste District:

The Harrison County Solid Waste District is a recycling and environmental education organization funded through county taxes. The Harrison County Solid Waste District's main operation is four drop-off recycling centers for residential use. Their purpose is to divert household recyclables from permanent disposal.

Solid Waste District Programs:

WHAT TO RECYCLE

  • NEWSPAPERS & NEWSPAPER INSERTS
  • CARDBOARD & PAPERBOARD- cereal, shoe, shipping, & similar boxes.
  • STEEL/TIN CANS
  • PLASTICS BOTTLES, JUGS,

& OTHER-(RECYCLING #’s 1 & 2 only) - (remove lids)

  • ALUMINUM BEVERAGE CANS- No pie tins or foil.
  • CLEAR, BROWN, OR GREEN GLASS BOTTLES OR JARS (remove lids)
  • MAGAZINES & CATALOGS
  • HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES - Rechargeable only
  • CAR BATTERIES
  • JUNK MAIL, SHREDDED PAPER, OFFICE PAPER- No bubble wrap or Styrofoam

Please rinse all cans, bottles, jars, and jugs.
Labels on jars and bottles do not need to be removed.
If plastic containers have a number other than 1 or 2, throw away.
Please throw away all lids taken off bottles and jugs.

Adopt-A-County Road Program

Join with us as we strive to keep Harrison County clean. The Adopt-A-County Road program allows us to work together with you to keep our County roads free of debris.

Program Requirements:

  • You must adopt at least one mile of county road
  • Plan to pick up trash along both sides of the road four times a year
  • Contact the Solid Waste District a few days before each of your collection days.

Services Provided:

  • Two Adopt-A-County Road signs will be made with your name and the length of your adopted stretch. The signs will be visable in both directions.
  • The Solid Waste District will furnish the bags for the trash for your collection days
  • Employees with the Harrison County Highway Department will pick up bagged trash within two working business days after the collection.

Special Event Recycling – Containers available on loan for your next special Event

Provide the attendees at your next special event the option to recycle. They will appreciate the option to do the right thing for the environment. With ClearStream containers the attendees can see what to do and easily participate. The clear bags for the ClearStream Recycling Containers will be provided for you by the Solid Waste District. Please Note:
The Solid Waste District does not accept trash and there is not currently a place to take loads of trash in Harrison County. If you are in need of local trash services please call a local trash collection service such as Waste Management at Ph#812-738-8393 or Rumpke at Ph#800-678-6753. Dumpster service rental can also be arranged with several local businesses.
