The Harrison County Solid Waste District offers Recycling Programs, Special Recycling Services, Adopt-A-Road Programs and other special programs to the residents of Harrison County,
Recycling Programs:
Where to Recycle:
Corydon - 3151 Progress Blvd. Corydon, IN 47112 (Corydon Recycling Center)
Elizabeth - 5077 Main Street, Elizabeth, IN 47117 (Old Elizabeth Grade School)
Lanesville - Lanesville Jaycees property (near Gresham Park)
Palmyra - 2090 Hwy 150NE (the old DOT scale station near Buffalo Trace Park)
When to drop off your recycling items:
- Corydon Recycling Center is open Monday - Friday from 9:00am - 5:30pm. The outside recycling bins are for after hours use and are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. During operating hours, please come inside. Do not leave pay items at the Corydon Facility after hours.
- Elizabeth, Lanesville and Palmyra locations are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
During operating hours at the Corydon Facility a district employee will be on-site to help you with your materials.
No Dumping. Dumped materials make a big mess. Centers at Elizabeth, Lanesville and Palmyra are open 24/7
What to Recycle:
- Newspapers & Newspaper Inserts
- Cardboard & Paperboard (cereal boxes, shoe, shipping, & similar boxes)
- Steel/Tin Cans
- Plastic Bottles/Jugs & Other (RECYCLING #’s 1 & 2 only)
- Aluminum Beverage Cans
- Clear. Brown, or Green Glass Bottles or Jars
- Magazines & Catalogs
- Car Batteries
- Junk Mail, Shredded Paper, Office Paper - No bubble wrap or Styrofoam
Please rinse all cans, bottles, jars, and jugs.
Labels on jars and bottles do not need to be removed.
If plastic containers have a number other than 1 or 2, they can be taken at the Corydon Facility only.
Special Recycling Services:
These special services include a service fee. This fee is due in advance and is CASH or CHECK ONLY.

- Electronics
- Paint
- Flourescent Bulbs
- Household Batteries
- Construction Waste/Furniture/Carpet
Paid Items can only be taken during office hours - (Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm) Please call ahead with these items
Appliance and Scrap Metal (There is no fee for these items)
All Freon must be removed from Appliances
Please Note:
The Solid Waste District does not accept trash and there is not currently a place to take loads of trash in Harrison County. If you are in need of local trash services please call a local trash collection service such as Waste Management at Ph#812-738-8393 or Rumpke at Ph#800-678-6753. Dumpster service rental can also be arranged with several local businesses.
